Tax Filing & Deadlines

14. When is the tax filing deadline?

15. Do I need to file a tax return?
Most individuals must file if their income exceeds IRS thresholds. Even if you’re not required, filing can be beneficial if you qualify for a refund or tax credits.

You can check your refund status using the IRS "Where’s My Refund?" tool on irs.gov or call 1-800-829-1954.

18. What’s the difference between a tax credit and a deduction?

23. How can I set up a payment plan with the IRS?
If you owe taxes and can’t pay in full, you can apply for an IRS installment agreement online at irs.gov. Short-term plans (under 180 days) are free, while long-term plans may have setup fees.

24. How long does the IRS have to audit me?
The IRS typically has three years from the date you file your return to conduct an audit. However, this period can extend in cases of fraud or substantial underreporting.
